They ruled that holding a banner that read "Bong Hits 4 Jesus", even off school property, is not protected by free speech. I will be the first to admit it was a dumb banner, but who cares? In this case, the so called conservatives ruled against the constitution, and the libs ruled for it. What is wrong with this country when the conservatives on the court are so far to the left, the liberals are to the right of them? How embarrassing!! Will conservatives in government ever stop acting like stalin?

Personally, I think it was a goofy banner. What was more goofy was the supreme court even getting involved. I am not really in favor of any substance that makes a person dumber than they already are, but hey, I AM in favor of a person's right to choose right or wrong for THEMSELVES. You see an idiot with a stupid sign, LOOK THE OTHER WAY! If the person holding the sign was actually breaking drug laws, then make them stop. If he or she was invoking thoughts only..Then welcome to AMERICA. It's kinda what we do here!
Conservatives are not conservative about constitutional matters they are conservative about what THEY want said.

Okay, how can prayer in school not be considered free speech but a stupid banner mocking Jesus is? It is about time they represented the majority and not the few.

To baseline - The right to free speech is not unlimited - you cannot yell "fire " in a crowded theater if there is not a fire and you CAN be arrested for inciting a riot.
That said, what I find more horrifying is that the parents of Joseph Frederick did not beat his a** like a dog for acting like an idiot. We are bringing up a generation of disrespectful morons - that is what really will cause the downstream damage to our society - more damage than this silly court ruling. It sounds stupid but good manners ARE the glue of our society.

Okay, this kid was at a school sponsored function. Now I'm sure we can all remember back when we used to go on field trips we were all told that the school rules still applied. So even though he was not on school grounds he was still with his school and representing his school.
Secondly, this was not some innocent, bright teen who was stomped on by a conservative government and had his rights abolished. This was a trouble-making student who was constantly in trouble who decided to make a sign that was intentionally offensive not just to his school administration but to anyone who saw it. "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" is not a political statement, it's a stoned teenager who thinks he's funny by being an idiot.
Third of all, I have no problem with out school administrators or our government discouraging teenagers from using illicit drugs. I was a former school teacher on the high school and middle school level and the amount of drugs these kids are exposed to is unreal. What is especially discouraging is the lenient attitude most school administrators and parents take towards marijuana... how it is a recreational drug and no more dangerous than alcohol. Although I agree with this, we still shouldn't encourage young people with impressionable minds to destroy their braincells and waste time getting stoned when these are the years they should be working hard to make something out of their lives.
Also, I am a liberal. I am a Democrat liberal who stands COMPLETELY in favor of free speech. But this wasn't a free speech issue. This was some stoned teenager whose parents obviously had dropped the ball years ago trying to be a smart alec and making a cheap pot joke to embarrass his school. When he got punished... which he should have been... he decided to fight the system because he felt his rights had been denied. Really, he was just denied the right to be a loser pothead with a marginal sense of humor.
