Could the system actually work?

Do you think throwing out the $57 million claim for a pair of pants was a just result verifying our legal system or is it broken? If it is broken, how can we fix it?

The problem is that the local rules permitted the Plaintiff to ask for a specific $$ amount.
If the local rules would restrict the prayer for relief to "damages as the evidence shows" this never would hasve been news, and the dry cleaner wouldn't have TENS of thousands of dollars in legal fees over what SHOULD have a simple small claims case
The system is messed up for sure. There need to be some limits put into place. I know that no one wants limits, I'm even leery of them, but to alllow this sort of ridiculous litigation go on is wasting everones time. Common sense just has to prevail.
