Cynicism in america?

Answers:
1968: Vietnam War/Tet offensive; Siege of Khe Sanh; Days of rage on campus; MLK shot; RFK shot; Richard Nixon has a secret plan to end the war; Riots in Chicago keep LBJ off the ballot; and last but not least, Heidi preempts the last two minutes of a Raiders game. they score two touchdowns to win after the tv coverage ends.
bah humbug
We've always had it. Lincoln couldn't get people to fight the civil war, and most of the colonial folks didn't even want a revolution.

You could read any authors work from anytime in American history and find them saying "The country is going straight down the tubes". We love being cynical, its in our blood.
Cynicism has deep roots in money and time. People have less and less of both each day and when people have less of both the level of their cynicism grows and creates less of each. Basically a never-ending cycle.
