Dispute over property line?

Hello,
I recently had a dispute over a property line with my neighbors. The problem is that they don't maintain the area in between our driveways which is their property. They never pull the weeds and the bushes that are there are out of control. In the past, I would spray the weeds that were in my driveway and cut the bushes. These neighbors also have stacks of bricks and woods in their yard and driveway that have been there for approximately three years. My city councilman said that I should not do anything until I have my property surveyed to make sure where the line is. I paid the huge expense and had it done. As it turns out, about 1/4 of their "weed pit" in on my property. They also have large stones on half my property as well. My question is, who is responsible for moving this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Answers:
as long as you have had it surveyed and it is a legal survey done by your city or county then what ever is on your property is your concern and you can do what you want with it, if the rocks are large and you cant move them then ask them to move them because you are going to have a fence put in if they dont then you can take them to the city council and have them put in abatement and if they dont comply then the city will take care of it, i had this problem with a couple nieghbors last year over trees hanging in my yard i cut the limbs over my side of the fence and they called the cops out and the cops laughed at them then i was a mean person and had the city remove the tree since they werent taking care of it
Since you have already paid for the property survey, have it clearly marked. They use iron rods, trees, stakes, anything which can clearly mark the property boundary.
If this causes conversation, say you are interested in maintaining your portion of the property in a new and different way. This may lead to a discussion of the neighbor's belongings on your property, it will at least inform him of where his property rights end.
Whether you can do this in person, or by letter is your choice.
A paragraph should address the removal of the neighbor's belongings. You shouldn't recommend a destination, although if you can do this legally, let him know if you do the removal, the destination is the town dump. Maybe he will move his own belongings.(You can offer the large stones, and things others may want of your neighbors, for free with removal in your local community newspaper.)
Like the above post said, have the boundaries clearly marked. If you don't get along well with them, just tell him he has a few days to move it or you will "remove it" for him. If it is of any value put a listing on craigslist.org for curb alert and it will be gone by the time you get home from work. if you do get a long with them, just inform them that you want to do some decorating but those are in your way and you don't want them to get misplaced. I think he will get the hint......
