The national average household income is about $35,000 but we keep a felon in prison with about $50,000 per year. Wise eh?
Why don't we treat criminals as they are - animals? Why do we make life so comfortable for them at the expense of law-abiders? Why do we treat prisoners so good that they want to come back after they're released?
Why do we send everyone to jail when we can serve justice once and for all and avoid having to waste tax payers' funds? When a rapist is caught, why don't we cut off the monster in-between his legs and let him go? End of rape, period! When we catch a kidnapper, can't we cut off his hands and let him be? If we convict a pedophile, why don't we pluck out his/her eyes and permanently solve the problem?
Some lessons from the east will definetly help. Don't you think so?

The Constitution does not allow "cruel and inhuman punishment". We are not allowed to treat another human being in the manner you've described. We want to sometimes! I have had the same thoughts before. I have not had those thoughts very many times since watching the video of the woman in the bourqa being shot in the head in the middle of a soccer field. That is what separates us from those that still live in the dark ages. Our founding fathers were gifted men they built a better nation. We will continue to punish our criminals with justice, fairness and mercy. Even when they have shown none. I do agree that they don't need TV, air conditioning, telephones, spending money ect. Its punishment, not summer camp.

Because the human rights people forget that the criminal totally disregarded their victim's rights when the crime was committed.
The problem I have with that is that we have many wrongfully convicted people in jails. Look at the people for whom DNA has proved them innocent after many years in jail. How many more are there?
In a perfect world, we would never be wrong about a conviction and your idea would be just fine with me. But I don't know how we'll ever get there.
Becuase Americans are becomming cowards. We are being taught in schools that everyone should be treated with the same respect and dignity no matter what their disadvantage might be. Also, we teach our children that disadvantages are reasons (not just exuses) for people breaking the law and that it is not fair because they were not given a chance from the start. Personal responsibility is not a value taught anymore either because people in this country have traditionally not been held accountable for their own decisions and such.

Because we are a country that is governed by the rule of law. Despite the fact that your suggestions may draw rave reviews at the local pub, when reality sets in people generally believe in human rights. If you believe that those policies are right, then by all means run for public office. If that doesn't work you could always move to one of those countries of which you speak so fondly.
First off My former crim professor was a warden at Rikers and he said you treat them like animals your going to get animals and you can't lock criminals up forever so it is not good to have meaner criminals getting out when they come in. Second prison is not some sort of summer camp, well unless you are gay. The amount of violence that still goes on among general population is still appauling unless you have connections inside of prison you will have to fight your way to keep yourself from serious damage. the general pop is more or less controlled by the gangs and the guards are really just their to make sure you are not killed. Finally since when does holding ourselves to a country that breeds terrorists a good idea.
